چکیده
Proximal femur is often involved with varus and retroversion deformity in polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (PFD). Multiple corrective osteotomies with intramedullary nails in two stages is recommended procedure as some authors described. We report a case using double-level osteotomy and one-stage reconstruction with intramedullary nail in a patient with painful proximal femur and diaphysis varus deformity, the neck-shaft angle was corrected from 95° pre-operatively to 125° post-operatively, the patient was free of pain and no evidence of recurrence at the 24-month follow up. The operative design and method were described, and a review of related literatures about the treatment alteration for PFD and relevant operative selection were also performed.

One-stage osteotomy and fixation using a long proximal femoral nail and fibular graft to correct a severe shepherd's crook deformity in a patient with fibrous dysplasia: a case report.
We report a case where a one-stage osteotomy and fixation, using a long proximal femoral nail and fibular graft, was performed to correct a severe shepherd's crook deformity (70-degree varus and 50-degree retroversion) of the femoral neck with a pathological stress fracture in a patient with fibrous dysplasia. The neck shaft angle was corrected to 125 degrees. At the 57-month follow-up, the pat...

INTRODUCTION Fibrous dysplasia is a rare benign disorder of the skeletal system characterized by fibro osseous proliferation with intervening areas of normal or immature bone in the intramedullary region. It can either be a monostotic (involves one bone) or a polyostotic (involves more than one bone) presentation and usually occurs equally in males and females. Deformities like scoliosis and sh...
متن کاملMultiple valgus osteotomies combined with intramedullary nail for shepherd’s crook deformity in polyostotic fibrous dysplasia: a case series and review of the literature
The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term clinical outcomes of valgus osteotomy combined with intramedullary nail for the treatment of shepherd’s crook deformity of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. We reviewed the clinical data of 22 patients with polyostotic fibrous dysplasia that was treated at our department between January 1995 and January 2010. All 22 of the patients (23 femurs)...
متن کاملTreatment of shepherd’s crook deformity in patients with polyostotic fibrous dysplasia using a new type of custom made retrograde intramedullary nail: a technical note
AIMS The severe form of coxa vara, the 'shepherd's crook deformity', is always a consequence of a locally extensive form of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (or McCune-Albright syndrome). Treatment of this deformity is a challenge. The soft bone does not tolerate any implant that depends on the stability of the cortical bone (like plates or external fixators). Intramedullary nails are the most app...
متن کاملFibrous Dysplasia of Proximal Femur: Management of the Complications
Fibrous dysplasia represents about 5% of benign bone lesions; however, the true incidence is unknown, as many patients are asymptomatic. Monostotic fibrous dysplasia accounts for 75-80% of the cases. It is caused by gene mutation [1,2]. Fibrous dysplasia is a slowly growing lesion that usually appears during periods of bone growth and is thus seen in those in early teen and adolescent years. Po...
